To Tinder or not to Tinder

tinder-app

After a month or two on Tinder I can’t call myself an expert, and I also wouldn’t like to get that label at all! But I came up with some tips and ideas, especially for the men out there.
After I decided to give it a try, convinced by my best friend of course, got some tips from her on how to choose randomly, what to say about myself, etc. At first sight it looks kind of exciting to have the chance to take a look into the hundreds (or more!) of profiles this free app is constantly offering. It’s worse than publicity! You’re bombed one after the other, swiping left for a Nope (I don’t like) and swiping right for Like (it’s obvious). No matter how many profiles you are swiping one way or the other, it will continue until you drop dead.

Since I started with this blog I’ve been more than secretly hoping that opportunities were to come to me one way or another. Being unemployed, now longer than a year, makes every day more difficult to believe there will be a job out there for me. It’s a kind of depression not to be working, not only because I’m living in a kind of poverty, also the fact that I’m aware that all my talents and skills are not being used. It also has to do with a lack of self-fulfilment.

Of course, you can think this is just an excuse not to go for it. Like I heard many times, if I’m so desperate about having a job, there are plenty of possibilities out there. And I agree there are possibilities, but as I said at the beginning not all these job opportunities seem to be the right one for me. Believe me; I myself can’t afford to stay any longer without earning that money I need every month to pay my bills.

This blog has been opening me some doors, not only many people are actually reading what I have to say, there are others waiting to see how I evolve and wishing me all the best. Imagine my happiness when Eva Visser Plaza from Holanda Conecta, together with Eugenia Vega Montesino from Conquista Coach invited me to participate to her training ‘The Ultimate Job Search’ in Amsterdam on a whole day Saturday. This was the chance I was waiting for to learn new tips & tricks and interact with fellow job seekers! Every opportunity is always a possibility for change. This was clearly mine.

First steps: following the advice given

ImageIntroduction

When I started this challenge, on a  monday really late in the evening, exactly on the 12th March, I didn’t have in mind what was I going to achieve by sharing my experience and asking for help on social media. I had, yes,  the idea that social media could actually work for almost everything. I’m always using Facebook for the creation of events, and sharing information with a great network. That’s something that gives me lots of feedback.

But looking for a job, and being helped with that, it’s just something totally different.

So, that monday late in the evening I created this challenge as an event and placed it on my profile on Facebook, on a public mode. I must say that I’m really picky when it comes to letting people see stuff I write or post on my profile. This way it was a double challenge to expose myself, using myself as a sort of Guinea pig. What I’ve done is a real example of personal branding.

Immediately after I’ve got many messages and people commenting on the event (challenge). I was really amazed! Most of them were people I didn’t even know or met before. Some friends and contacts replied really fast, also giving me advice or tips. All ideas were welcome and I felt a bit overwhelmed. Social media really works!

I was happy with the result and really enthousiastic knowing that what I’ve had in my head was taken seriously and people do really wanted to help me.

However this great idea was, many things weren’t really clear for me, how was I going to use them all?. After a couple of days of getting messages from acquaintances and strangers I felt a bit under pressure.

Everybody was giving me their opinion and telling me what should I do. I must say I always been a really self-sufficient person, and asking for help is not something I do quite often. Although at this moment I can REALLY  use all help possible!
